We Pray for the Earthquake Survivors in Kashmir and Pakistan

By: Jill Rauh

Source of Love, You created us as one human family, to love and care for one another. Awaken us to the cries of those members of our human family who continue to be victimized by the earthquake in Kashmir and Pakistan.

Source of Divine Shelter, Nearly 2 million of our sisters and brothers in Kashmir and Pakistan are still living in tents. They brace themselves for two more months of freezing temperatures. Let us stop for a moment in solidarity: We envision their bodies shaking with cold, frozen fingers and toes, a mother huddling with her childrení¢â‚¬Â¦

Source of Warmth, Only 30,000 of 860,000 tents distributed were adequate for winter conditions. Awaken our cold hearts to our responsibility to provide for physical warmth and survival.

Source of Life, The earthquake killed almost 74,000 people and seriously injured 69,000. Heal the pain of those survivors who lost beloved family members. Help us to feel their pain.

Source of Health, Infection and disease are rampant, as the winter chill weakens immune systems, especially of those most vulnerable, such as the elderly and weak. Help us to call on our leaders for more supplies for shelter and healing.

Source of Spiritual Food, Make us your hands to deliver food and drink for the health and well-being of our sisters and brothers in Kashmir and Pakistan.

Source of Strength, Give the people of this region the strength and will to endure, to survive. Let them not feel forgotten.

Source of Peace, Rescue and relief has been made more difficult by continuing tensions between Pakistan, India, and the occupied region of Kashmir. Assist governments in waging peace so that all can be assisted adequately.

God, we pray that you will inspire us to cry for help from our leaders and governments on behalf of our sisters and brothers who remain stranded and cold. Make us hands and voices, and be with them in their suffering. Amen.
