The Principle of Gratuitousness in "Caritas in Veritate"
In the encyclical, "Caritas in Veritate", Pope Benedict XVI explores the 'Logic of Gift' and the principle of gratuitousness. This principle runs through other social encyclicals and receives more extensive development in this document. This three-page resource explains this principle and includes quotes from the encyclical to illustrate, reflect upon and discuss. Pope Benedict grounds his understanding of this principle first in the gift of love which is God's nature.
