Prayer Service for Peace in Kosovo & Serbia
On February 17, 2008 Kosovo declared independence from Serbia. Since 1999 Kosovo has had no official status as a region, territory or country as a result of the 1991 breakup of the former communist country, Yugoslavia. Kosovo had been a semi-autonomous region within Yugoslavia. In 1999 Kosovo was placed under the protection and governance of the United Nations after Serbia began a process of ethnic cleansing and military invasion.
