Prayer for the People of Myanmar/Burma

By: Jane Deren

In the winds of destruction,
in the fierce rains of suffering
We strain for the voice of God,
We marshal our prayers of solidarity to bring comfort and hope.
As we witness the death and the destruction
We are united in heart and hope.

Prayer for the People of Myanmar/Burma

In the winds of destruction,
in the fierce rains of suffering
We strain for the voice of God,
We marshal our prayers of solidarity to bring comfort and hope.
As we witness the death and the destruction
We are united in heart and hope.
In the long-suffering nation of Myanmar, the cries of the people must be heard.

But God's voice is in the whispers in Burma;
In the slight sounds of the devastated aiding their neighbors,
In the murmured prayers of the Buddhist monks who have marched for freedom;
In the firm voices of Burmese human-rights activists who will not be silenced;
In the hopeful prayers of aid workers ready to help.

And to echo the sounds of Divine Love,
Our voices are needed:
To join the prayers for the people of Burma;
To pledge our support to end their suffering,
To speak out for justice for this country, so long under an oppressive yoke.

Hear our voices, O Lord,
And let our cries come unto You.

Amen.
