Prayer for the New Year

As we face the year ahead,
We pray in humility, in longing,
For the courage to be open
To the grace of God
And to the path ahead.

We pray that God’s grace
Deepen our soul’s capacity
To deal with the complexities
Of our nation and our world.

We pray that we will hear justice
Like a welcoming bell ringing out
Across our world.
We pray that peace will become visible
To us like doves flying
Across a winter sky.

We pray that we may become
Agents of justice, bearers of peace.
We pray that we may know compassion
For ourselves and our human family
As we struggle to be open
To the grace of God and the path ahead.
