May: Month of Mary, Month of Mothers
This reflection explores less traditional images of Mary, Mother of God, and of all mothers. The first section introduces Kathe Kollwitz (1867-1945), a German Expressionist artist who was devoted to creating art that honestly depicted the bleak social conditions of her time. She was a tireless voice for justice and peace until her death. The second section features the writing of Peter Daino, a Marianist Brother, who writes about Mary, mother of sorrows, who finds the courage and strength to endure and support others.
