Litany for Human Rights Day, Dec. 10
Since Pope Leo XIII wrote about the basic rights to food, shelter and a living wage in 1891, the Catholic Social Teaching tradition has promoted economic as well as other human rights. John Paul II spoke often of his support for the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. December 10th marks the anniversary of this important document.
To celebrate this day, the Litany for Human Rights offers an opportunity to reflect on some basic economic and social human rights issues in the world today and pray for those who are denied their rights.
