Health and CST Unit
According to Catholic Social Teaching, health care is a basic human right, flowing from humankind's creation in the image and likeness of God. Yet, nearly 44 million people in the U.S. still lack access to health care. Worldwide, 27 million children are still not being vaccinated against the most common childhood diseases, and more than 10 million children will die before their fifth birthday because they do not have access to proper nutrition, medication, or vaccines. This 6-page backgrounder includes information on health in the U.S. and worldwide and discusses what Catholic Social Teaching has to say about health and health care.
This resource looks at health and healthcare though the lens of Catholic Social Teaching, at both the domestic and international levels. It includes facts on the state of the health of children throughout the world, a prayer, and discussion questions on the structural reform needed to remedy the current situation.
