Franz Jagerstatter
Franz Jagerstatter was martyr for the faith who refused to cooperate with the Nazi's. He was one of the only persons in his town who as a matter of conscience did not vote to support the Anchluss. He was drafted into the Nazi military and upon returning home from basic training, refused to enlist. He was arrested and jailed. He was beheaded six months later, leaving a wife and three children. He was a remarkable man of faith and courage. His wife was a significant influence in his life who led him to stand up for his convictions and the teachings of the gospel. Franz was beatified on October 26, 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI.
