Drugs, Demilitarization and Poverty in Colombia
From 2000 to 2005, the U.S. has provided $4.5 billion to Colombia for anti-drug and military purposes. Much money has been directed toward "Plan Colombia," which involves fumigation of coca crops, which has impacted the health of local populations. This fact sheet focuses on the need to transition U.S. support from military to social and economic support. An action alert for the Days of Action and Prayer for Peace in Colombia is included.
