Prayer:  Annunciations Today

[Scripture Passage on the Annunciation:  Luke 1: 26-38]

Eternal God, You speak to us today as You spoke to Mary of Nazareth.
You invite us to embody Christ in our lives as Mary did.
May we also say “Yes” and make your Word flesh among us.
May Mary guide us and ground us in your loving presence.
As we move into the world, generating and mothering the realities of peace, of justice, of loving solidarity.

Where broken economic structures in the U.S. and around the world cause homelessness, hunger and hopelessness…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where environmental degradation of land, water and air threaten our planet's ability to sustain us…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where acute food shortages caused by natural disasters and economic mismanagement have caused millions of deaths as in North Korea, Zimbabwe, Niger and Ethiopia…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where religious freedoms are denied and religious leaders are exiled as in Tibet, Burma and Saudi Arabia…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where religious, economic, ethnic and cultural differences seriously challenge political stability and lead to civil unrest as in Madagascar, Malaysia and Afghanistan…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where long simmering distrust, injustice and injury divide people as in the Middle East, Darfur and Kenya…
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.

Where migrants and refugees flee poverty and violence for survival in more stable communities such as Spain, Italy and the United States …
Mary of Nazareth, help us to act in global solidarity and foster genuine human community in Christ.
